lay down with dogs, come up with crabs

so esch is obsessed with lizards and chases them all over the yard like a freak. last night on our walk he found an unpleasant surprise in the grass while chasing lizards...

i don't know if i feel worse for escher for getting hurt or for the crab for losing his arm. maybe it'll teach esch a lesson. doubting it though.

and they called it puppppy love....

new and old are getting along really well. guess i am keeping the name for little dude. gizmo it is.

fell in love with this guy and ended up taking him off a friend's hands. friend's family is growing so some of the four legged members gotta go...

his current name is gizmo (thinking of changing it to puzzle) & he's a 2 1/2 year old chihuahua. super tiny and lovable. a little on the protective side, trying to break him out of that. at least the barking and nipping at escher when he's in my lap and escher is at my feet. caught him asleep on escher yesterday when i came out of the shower so i think they will get along just fine in time.

yesterday was escher's one year birthday & he had the best day ever. toys, bones, special treats, park visit, new bowls & dinner at uncle rocky's house who was born on the same day five years earlier.

usher sucks

twice last night people thought my dog's name was usher. who would name their pet after usher? he's not iconic. i could understand if someone named their dog after bob dylan, elvis, johnny cash or bob marley. but usher? i guess i portray myself as someone who would name their dog after a crappy actor and autotuned to hell musician.

passerby: usher? 
me: no not usher, escher, like the artist.
passerby: yea usher, the dance artist.
me: i would sooner die then name my dog after usher.

yesterday tara went out for two hours and came home to this:

so she told escher that he is not going to have a bed anymore and that he is only going to get a towel to lay on.

apparently the towel is not up to his standards so he got rid of it.



sunday runday

i don't know what i'd do without this snuggle bug...

i slacked again this morning and didn't make it out to the beach to watch the sunrise. one morning next weekend for sure. kiera was making breakfast for the fam so i hit the flea market for a quick peek before heading dt to meet her for foodage & shopping. no treasures today. did see a pretty awesome book of black & white aerial city photos but it was $10 and i was on a $7 budget. didn't feel like haggling either. it was a toss up between the usual osceola cafe & bagel brothers for brunch. bagel brothers for the win. super yummy sandwiches and ok coffee. we didn't get to eat outside because the world's largest family had hoarded every chair at one table. 

kiera loves april daze so of course we went there & she picked out some good christmas gifts for a few people on her list. it's so super cute in there. we walked to earthtones and got some incense for someone else on her christmas list. i made her go into the store that has all the grandma glass and ephemera. always good to see what the going rate is on certain inventory. time for me to move some of the stuff i have been collecting. 

target was a total madhouse. there weren't even any carts at the front door. luckily i scored us an abandoned one by the electronics department. she got a ton of cute toys for the kids and i scored some tech decks for ari. first christmas gift down. the line to checkout was ridiculous. ditto for the line at michael's. the total wine they opened next door to michael's looks pretty great. i need to check that out sometime in the near future. stuart is stepping it's game up. crossing my fingers for a whole foods next. i won't even waste my hopes and dreams on trader joe. 

my favorite 13 year old in the whole world sent me a text and asked if i would come pick her up and take her dt to walk around. of course i went to get her after kiera dropped me at my car. first we went by the mark to visit stephanie. the riverwalk music thing was going on so we walked down on the docks, around pelican, through to sailor's and back via the train tracks ponyboy style. she wanted to see where 561 was because apparently some boy she knows has a facebook picture in front of the sneaker wall. i made a deal with her that if she loads all my cds onto itunes i will buy her any pair of sneakers there that she wants. not sure who makes out better on that deal but i do know i have like 200 cds. drove out to jbhs to drop her off for volleyball practice. why can't they label things normally there? i'm pretty sure the nutrition center can just be called the cafeteria. when did jensen get so damn fancy? took one of my favorite drives home. indian river drive to dixie to sumner to alice and over the old rosie. windows down and sunroof open. really perfect weather today. 

was supposed to go for a walk with ty but he bailed to hang out with his sister and nephew. his mom came home last night after being at the cottage in upstate ny for five months. i love that lady, happy to have her home. had to go home and change my shoes because vans are just bad for walking. sky started getting dark so i dozed off for a bit with the esch man in the middle of watching this dude with a bizarre accent buy a house in croatia on hhi. ended up doing the walk solo at 7. super breezy, actually needed to keep my zipup on. i cut 12 minutes off my walk by being alone and 3 minutes off my spider solitaire game. i am officially kicking my own ass. 

good sunday overall. lots of running around but i snuck in some time for myself and got to spend qt with two of my favorite people. no complaints.

a lot of people ask me where the name escher comes from and i am always surprised that people are not familiar with the artist mc escher. he worked mainly with black and white, hence the choice of names for a black and white dog.
