awesome trip

Connecticut was so pretty and green and hilly. Such a great escape. The air just smells better and the grass is so skinny and weird and soft. Doing the wifi thing right now up 10,000 feet on my way from the layover in Atlanta to PBI, landing at about midnight. Annoying chatty people to my left have finally ceased the annoying chatter. I do love vacation, and airport people watching, but I can't wait to get home, see my pups and sleep in my own comfy familiar bed.

I scored an awesome pair of Jack Rogers and a rad Obey thin long sleeve knit super heathered number. I love to "vacation shop." Didn't make it to NYC for fear of spending too much money. I'll get back there soon enough though.

on the road again

left savannah yesterday and took the hour drive to hilton head to visit my sister for a few days. my father has 5 kids in total with 4 women. janie is by far my favorite. we are very alike and she is wise beyond her years and just plain awesome. she's 19 and was the youngest until 3 years ago when he decided that it was in fact time to have a baby at the ripe old age of old. it's nice here, i have been here plenty of times, but this was the only time i can remember being happy as i was traveling here. prob because i wasn't being forced to come here to see people i didn't want to see. wanted to go to the beach today because my tanorexic self thinks i am getting pale with all  my time away from the sunshine state. weather looks like dog shit.

wednesday was really super hot in savannah and i thought i was going to die from heat stroke, or at least pass out. this chick told me about this awesome organic, vegetarian/vegan market/cafe that was at the edge of the park so i decided to make my trek towards it around 1pm. little did i know that it was 2 miles away. it was 101 and ridiculously humid. so i get there and i don't want a shitty sogged out premade sandwich and ask for a freshy. crunchy vegan girl behind the counter was pissy about it but made it anyways. i told her i wanted one without tomatoes to make my request seem more valid. who wants a sogged out hummus and cucumber sandwich?! i walked around and looed at all the holistic meds and other misc veggie head items and came back to get my sammie and they had put a sign out that said "no more custom sandwiches." i mean really? eat a dick you rude lazy hairy armpitted vegan wench. i walked two miles to get this stupid sandwich!! it was good though. walked back along the park and saw some really beautiful homes. ate dinner at this amazing restaurant called the olde pink house. excellent service and even more excellent food. blt salad and duck with 2 fat tires = yummo.  i would definitely go back if i ever make it to savannah again, which i am pretty sure that i will. i wanted to try a ghost tour sometime while i was there but i decided against it since i can hardly stand to watch scary movies and i was staying alone in a weird hotel in an unfamiliar city. maybe next time.

maybe i will go home on saturday, but it looks more like it'll be sunday. i don't have to be back at work until tuesday and i am really relishing my time away. relaxation and no stress is a great feeling.

RIP scary christmas tree

when i bought my house a year ago there was a super tall scary christmas tree in the yard that i wanted to get rid of asap. it would sway in the wind and had three spurts off the top that were a sign that it had broken and regrown more than once. i wanted it gone before hurricane season came and slammed it into my house.

six months later while d was doing my floors we had our first big rain of hurricane season and the tree came the hell down. luckily it didn't hit the house but it made some serious dents in the yard and annihilated my ficus. thanks to d for hooking up the tow rope and moving it out of the driveway before i got home from work. even bigger thanks to my uncle for having a landscape business and sending his guys over the next day to take care of everything.

love is watching someone die

we lost my uncle brian to cancer today. it was extremely hard to watch someone that was always so big and strong go through that rapid cancer decline, the deterioration, the memory loss, the accelerated aging. as you get older, you lose more people & honestly it is not getting any easier. he is the first of the six children of my grandparents to pass away. cancer stole him and my grandmother at the same age. forty nine. it amazes me now that i am 31 because at 8 years old i thought my grandmother was a relic. now i see that 49 is not old at all. even when my grandfather passed at 70 years old i feel like he wasn't ready. i really believed that he would live forever. then that cancer whisper comes and you just know. the thing that really gets me is that it runs so solid and deep in my family that it will most likely come for us all. and here i am as a third gen, set in this family as more of a little sister to my aunts and uncles than a niece, miles apart from the relationships my cousins have with these people...and i will be the one to watch them all go. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

i will remember brian forever. anytime i listen to classic rock, see a 1964 bug or really any vw/audi, make lasagna, sausage gravy or fruit salsa, work on my car, work on my house, look at the mexican tile that he laid in my sunroom, or think of all the stuff he did for me in the ways that only he could...i will think of him kicking my ass and making me tough when i was a kid, or telling me stories and giving me life lessons. brian wasn't perfect and neither am i. i know he wouldn't change a second of the life he led. i love you bro bri. <3

i'm coming up only to show you down

date night

promised my favorite eight year old that i would take him to the movies as his christmas gift. t was having a girl's party at the house last night so i couldn't help but choose last night as movie night. movies with a kid < house full of annoying drunk chicks. little man picked tron. i hate 3d movies. it was a really crappy film and i couldn't follow it at all. no surprise that this is the number one movie in america. little man couldn't have been happier with his 3d glasses, a cherry slurpee and bag of bbq chips.

got home and di was there with the rest of the girl's party. she immediately dragged me outside to complain about her awful night and tell me how much she hates me for not being at a party at my own house. then we proceeded to stand outside the kitchen window and make fun of everyone inside because they couldn't see or hear us. it's the little things that make me happy.

merry christmas eve.
